The gums will be sore and irritated for 3-5 days after this procedure. Rinse your mouth with warm salt water (1 tsp. salt/8 oz. water) 2-3 times a day. This will relieve the pain and cleanse the area. Brushing and flossing should be continued right after the procedure, but brush gently so that you do not further irritate the area. Teeth may also feel cold sensitive after treatment due to hard tartar or calculus being removed from sensitive root surfaces. You may wish to temporarily use sensitivity toothpaste to reduce these symptoms.
Cavities refer to tooth decay which occurs when specific types of bacteria produce acid that destroys the tooth’s enamel and its underlying layer, the dentin.
